Jersey FA joins forces with Cherry Godfrey to host Cherry Godfrey Cup

The inaugural Cherry Godfrey Cup will see teams from Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight battle it out to become island champions.

The Jersey Football Association is delighted to announce the launch of the Cherry Godfrey Cup, a thrilling new women’s football tournament bringing together top talent from Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, and the Isle of Wight.

This exciting two-day competition will take place on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th August 2024 at Springfield Stadium in Jersey. The Cherry Godfrey Cup aims to showcase the exceptional skills and passion of female footballers across the islands.

The tournament promises to be a fantastic event for football fans of all ages and we encourage supporters to come along and cheer on the action at Springfield Stadium, which will no doubt have an amazing atmosphere. If you are unable to make it, we are also offering a live stream for each game.

The Cherry Godfrey Cup will be a biennial event, with the host island rotating between the four participating jurisdictions.

Chad Morris, Jersey Manager, said: “The Cherry Godfrey Cup is an exciting opportunity to play against other islands in a competitive environment. We are proud to be hosting the first edition of this Cup and massive praise needs to go to Cherry Godfrey for seeing the opportunity to create a tournament, which can have a great legacy for all involved.”

“We are very grateful for this opportunity and would love for everyone in Jersey to get behind the team, fill Springfield Stadium and show them the beautiful football we can play,” said Holly Muirhead, Jersey captain.

Jonathan Le Fondre, Interim CEO of the Jersey Football Association, said: “I would like to express our thanks to Cherry Godfrey for their generous support. Their sponsorship has been instrumental in bringing this event to life, and their commitment to promoting local football is hugely appreciated. It is through partnerships like these that we can continue to nurture and develop our sport and provide opportunities for the top players to pull on their 'national' kit to truly test themselves.”
