Jack Cannon appointed as Jersey Men's Manager
Long-serving former Jersey player Jack Cannon has been appointed as the new manager of the island’s men’s representative team, alongside lead coach Peter Vincenti.
Cannon, who is Jersey’s joint record holder for Muratti appearances (23 matches), will take charge from next week and will lead the side into next summer’s Island Games.
Ex-professional player Vincenti, who held a similar coaching role during his spell as assistant manager to departing boss Elliot Powell, is among the highest qualified local coaches. He represented Jersey in the 2006 Muratti and 2007 Island Games in Rhodes, and provides continuity in the Jersey FA’s coaching set-up.
Cannon said: “I’m incredibly honoured to take on this position and to lead the island I played for with so much pride for so many years. Peter and I work really well together. His appointment provides us with some continuity from the previous regime, which has performed so well in recent years winning a series of consecutive Murattis and that Island Games gold in 2023.
“I’m keen to get out to watch as many local players as possible over the months ahead to help shape our first squad, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
The Jersey Football Association received nine applications for the role, following Elliot Powell’s decision to step down from his Jersey FA commitments. Four high-quality candidates were interviewed earlier this week.
Cannon’s first match as manager of the senior side will be the Muratti Vase semi-final trip to Alderney in March. Then, in July, Jersey’s men travel to Orkney looking to become back-to-back Island Games gold medallists.
Tim Pryor, Jersey FA Chief Executive, said: “Jack’s leadership skills and desire shone through during the interview and application process, along with his extensive tournament experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he, Peter and their backroom team can achieve with this high-quality group of players.
“There’s an exciting second half of the season to come and plenty of opportunity for Jack to further build on the successes of recent years, whilst also shaping a team of his own.
“I’d like to thank all those who put themselves forward for the position. The energy and enthusiasm for Jersey football shown by all the candidates was exceptional.”
Cannon will also take charge of the island’s under-21 representative team, after they face Guernsey at Springfield this Sunday (1pm kick off) in Elliot Powell’s last match with the Jersey FA.
Jersey’s under-21s face Northern Ireland Schoolboys in early February.
