Portuguese United and Beeches join the action for 2020-21
The Jersey Football Association can confirm 19 clubs have now successfully completed their affiliation to the JFA for the 2020-21 season, including new outfit Portuguese United and a return after a four-season absence for Beeches.
Portuguese Utd will enter a men’s and a women’s team in the JFA Combination and will also field a side in the Santander International Walking Football League.
A statement from the new club read: “Portuguese United FC was set up in June 2020 by members of the local Portuguese community in Jersey with the desire to participate in football through a variety of men, women & walking football teams and are delighted to affiliate with JFA. The club will naturally grow and in the future expand with the introduction of an Academy to enable technical, physical, tactical and social development of young players with a pathway to senior football.”
Meanwhile, Beeches will compete in the Jacksons Over 35 Division. Beeches chairman Tim Wiseman said: “Having played for Beeches for some 20 years and being a ‘one club player’ I am very glad to have us back. I’m keen to get any Beeches old boys back involved in any way they think they could help the club, be it on or off the pitch and we’d also welcome any new players wanting to join.”
The clubs who have so far affiliated are as follows:
Beeches, Dragoes de Jersey (Dragons of Jersey), First Tower United, Grouville, GS United, Jersey Bulls, Jersey Leaning Disabilities Football Club, Jersey Scottish, Portuguese United, Rozel Rovers, Sporting Academics, Sports Club of Jersey, St Brelade, St Clement, St John, St Martin, St Ouen, St Peter and Trinity
Three further clubs (St Paul’s, St Lawrence and JTC Jersey Wanderers) are expected to have their affiliation approved in the next few days. The process for those three clubs is being held up while a number of new committee members complete mandatory FA online training for their roles.
